What is Fioricet ? Why my Dr right Recommended it to me?

What is Fioricet and has been my dr right for recommending it to me?

the dr prescribed this to me yesterday for my head aches and back pain.. i am pregnant and having a “threatened miscarriage” and it says it has caffeine in it. I didnt think caffeine would w good for me? Also, a friend told me that all fioricet is just tylenol is that true?

Butalbital/acetaminophen, sold under the brand name Butapap among others, is a combination medication used to treat tension headaches and migraine headaches. It contains butalbital, a barbiturate and paracetamol (acetaminophen), an analgesic. Versions also containing caffeine are sold under the brand name Fioricet among others. It is taken by mouth. The combination is also sold with codeine.

The most common side effects include sleepiness, dizziness, trouble breathing, and abdominal pain. Other severe side effects may include liver problems, confusion, addiction, and allergic reactions. Frequent use may result in medication overuse headache. Barbiturate withdrawal may occur if rapidly stopped following long term use. Use is not generally recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The combination was approved for medical use in the United States in 1984. It is available as a generic medication. In 2018, it was the 184th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 3 million prescriptions. In the United States it is a schedule III controlled substance in some states but not federally. It is banned in a number of European countries.

There are maybe a lot of solutions for this question. But I think the best answer is:

Answer simply by *M*
it can is most certainly not “just tylenol” although the active ingredient within tylenol, acetaminophen, is also present in your fioricet pills. if you’re right about it containing coffee (helps with headaches to some extent, but not back pain). the particular tylenol will help with both the particular headaches and back discomfort to some extent as well. However , it also has a third ingredient, butabital. Butabital is a barbiturate. essentially, this slows your body straight down a bit, suppresses your discomfort, relaxes you, helps to do away with any anxiety you might be sensation. This may sound wonderful, and it will probably feel pretty good, yet be careful not to take more than recommended because you can become addicted to this. Enjoy the pleasantries, but don’t get to used to them because you won’t have them anymore as soon as you’re feeling better. It more than likely hurt to ask your doctor if you could be on some thing a little weaker, caffeine plus butabital aren’t great for the baby, but shouldn’t be too terrible. If you can manage the pain, simply taking tylenol every now and then when it’s at it’s worst would be preferable.

Good luck!
